What is Chia Seed and how does it affect health?
There is a change in people's minds. More and more people are looking for a healthy diet, more exercise and above all a stress-free life. Even if the latter is not so easy to implement, the dietary habits do something. One is a vegetarian diet, others do without sugars and others rely on the power of the herbs. In most cases, plants from the Asian region are more and more popular in Europe. In the case of Chia seeds, it is similar, but what do the small grains really do?
Chia Seed - what is it and where does it come from? For us Europeans, the Chia seed is a new land, the Mayas and Aztecs have been one of the basic foodstuffs for centuries. The Mexican Chia belongs to the genus of the Salbeipflanzen and is above all to give strength. Translated, Chia means "strength". The seed was administered to messenger messengers and warriors for more endurance. If the Chia seeds in the Mexican area have been eaten raw or dried, there is now also chia oil, which is incorporated into the diet. In Europe, for example, the oil mill Fandler from Austria is the first to use high-quality organic chia oil from Chia Seed. The plant can be up to 1.75 m tall and bears blue-white flowers similar to the sage. For the health, however, the tiny black and white seeds are used.
What's inside the Chia seed? Chia Seeds belongs to the so-called Superfood, a (imaginary) term coined by the food industry. These include seeds, fruits and plants, such as the acai berry or the spirulina algae. All have in common that they should have a positive effect on health. The Chia seed contains among other things: Calcium (5x more than milk) Iron (significantly more than is contained in the spinach) Phenolic acid (good for cell protection) Dietary fiber (digestive) High protein content (16 g per 100 g) Omega 3 fatty acids (anti-inflammatory) Vitamin E (cell protection, antiaging effect) Potassium (strengthens the muscles) What is the effect of Chia Seed on health? First of all, it must be said that there is hardly any scientific evidence that Chia makes sperm a miracle. However, various
positive effects on the human body have been identified. ➨ Chia seeds in case of hypertension Chia Seed in High Blood PressureWhich is suffering from hypertension, is usually prescribed medication. If the values are extremely high, the measure is certainly the best. However, there are also foods with which the blood pressure can be reduced in a natural way. In addition to the abovementioned omega 3 acids, the seed of the Chiapflanze also contains niacin, a vitamin, which is also known under the names nicotinic acid, vitamin B3 or vitamin PP (Pellagra Preventing). This vitamin acts like a natural blood thinner. Anyone who already takes blood-thinning medication or who is suffering from low
blood pressure, should never take Chia Seeds without consultation with the doctor. ➨ Chia seeds against high cholesterol levels Just like hypertension, an increased cholesterol level is one of the national diseases of Germany. Reason is usually an unhealthy diet. As Chia's seed is rich in fiber, it contributes to the acid excretion of the bile. In order to produce new bile acid, the body consumes cholesterol, hence the cholesterol level decreases. The proportion of omega 3 acids also has a positive
effect on the blood fat values. ➨ Chia seeds stimulates intestinal activity Digestion problems can weigh heavily on us in everyday life. Despite balanced diet, there may be constipation. The permanent intake of laxatives is not a solution. Chia seeds, like linseed and bran, can stimulate intestinal activity and thus promote healthy digestion.
