Steinmeier is behind Gabriel

Image
"We should have confidence": Federal President Steinmeier expressed his contempt for the meeting between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Sigmar Gabriel in Israel - and placed himself on the side of the Foreign Minister. On his visit to Israel, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier criticized the recent escalation in bilateral relations. "We do not need any new rules," he said in Jerusalem on Sunday. An "honest and open dialogue" is necessary.  Steinmeier referred to the "turmoil" during the visit of Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel two weeks ago, when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a meeting because Gabriel had met government-critical organizations. "We should have confidence that friends we are,  who are heard here - from whomever it comes," said Steinmeier at a meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. "The unique relationship between our two countries is too important to measure alone on the question ...

Afghanistan Army reports death from IS leaders

Image
Special forces of the Afghan army have officially killed the leader of the terrorist "Islamic State" (IS) in Afghanistan, Abdul Hasib.  This was announced by the Afghan Presidential Palace on Sunday in a statement. US forces confirmed in a statement the death of Hasib and "several other ranghoher representatives" as well as of 35 fighters of the jihadist militia. The operation in the province of Nangarhar in the east of the country had taken place a week ago - one day after two US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan.  Hasib was personally responsible for an attack on a military hospital in Kabul in March, killing 49 people and killing 76 others, the Afghan Presidential Palace said. The IS has been active in Afghanistan since 2015 with its own offshoot. He fights the Taliban as well as Afghan and US forces.  The death of Hasib and his confidants could "weaken" the IS in the Hindu city "significantly" and bring the goal of the destr...

SPD to Kiel-Pleite Save him, who can

Image
If it does not, then even the little things go by. Then at some time a waiter in the SPD headquarters also slips a tray full of glasses and bottles from the hand. It is a very bitter evening for him and his party, so the SPD leader and Chancellor candidate Martin Schulz does not want to argue. "I am  annoyed," says Schulz on the small platform in the Willy-Brandt-Haus. The election in Schleswig-Holstein should give its campaign a new impetus - now exactly the opposite has happened. Instead of a strong backwind from the Kiel Fjord, the question arises: Can the SPD under Schulz actually win elections? Or was it all just a virtual vortex, no more than a survey phenomenon? Even the Saarland  election five weeks ago ended for the Social Democrats disappointing. Whoever is listening to the SPD this evening gets the impression that there is a culprit for the bankruptcy in the north: Prime Minister Prime Minister Torsten Albig. This interpretation is, on the one hand, tact...

Macron Beats the Wave of Populism Great relief: after the victory of Emmanuel Macron in the French presidential election, international politicians see Europe saved. Others warn five years ago. The reactions at a glance. Only a few minutes the victory of Emmanuel Macron was old, as already congratulations from Germany came. His success was a victory for a united Europe, the government spokesman Steffen Seibert twittered. Two hours later Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) telephoned with the 39-year-old. ' "The Chancellor is looking forward to working with the new president in a spirit of traditionally close Franco-German friendship," Seibert said. The relief is great that the Chancellor is spared a collaboration with Marine Le Pen. And other  heads of state and government also feel relieved that the pro-European left-wingers landed an unexpectedly wide margin in front of the right-wing candidate Le Pen.
